History marches on

January 10th, 2007 by nycwooa

After working long and hard making history once again in Flushing, Queens on a team that helped get the vote out for the election of Ellen Young for State Assembly, we had a wonderful inauguration that was well attended by community leaders from around the city such as Congressman Anthony Weiner, Bronx Boro President Adolfo Carrion, and Comptroller Bill Thompson.  All potential candidates for mayor and respected leaders in their parts of the city.  But today belonged to another day for history to happen:

ASSEMBLYWOMAN MAKES HISTORY
Ellen
Young became the first Asian-born woman elected to state office when
she won her Assembly bid in Flushing. Young, a native of Taiwan, beat
out Julia Harrison and Terence Park in the September primary and went
unchallenged in the general election. Young replaced Jimmy Meng, who is
stepping down for health reasons.

This was even more remarkable than the John Liu’s more recent elections since our team faced such a battle with former Assembly Meng’s formula of effort.  We will continue our hard work in the community rely on everyone’s voice collectively.

Life still goes on especially with the latest news on 2004 Voter Fraud and how a long time aide surrendered to authorities earlier WEdneday and is going to be arraigned
with a Class E Felony in relation to at least 36 fraudulent voter
registration forms.

Four Brothers on 34th

August 17th, 2005 by nycwooa

Had fun after work yesterday with another good old JHS, frosh HS friend and saw the movie, Four Brothers.  It was a fun movie but there was something about it that just wasn’t exciting at all.  It was more funny than drama oriented especially with two African American and two Caucasian adopted brothers fighting the corruption of Detroit after their adoptee mom was gunned down.  Not Oscar caliber but OK with the $9.50 Loews 34th Street theatre.  I’ll have to thank the friend for reminding me that it was the cheapest theatre in Manhattan.  Classic NYC outside Penn Station.

It was also nice to really browse the 1996 edition of the Midwood HS Epilog yearbook and to confirm some who’s who from that class.  Now I can understand why classmates.com, friendster, and facebook are such popular connecting tools.

One day, I’ll learn not to use all 24 hours in a day to it’s fullest, lol
